As with all Voluspa candles, the packaging is so darn pretty that they are a no-brainer when it comes to gifting, and this particular gift set certainly doesn’t disappoint! The box is quite impressive with its artsy metallic sleeve, and sleek Parisian sliding drawer cookie box with black grosgrain ribbon pull. Inside there are five 1.8 oz candles that are so feminine and charming all lined up like sweet little macarons, but instead of the edible kind, these are a swirl patterned textured glass in the loveliest delicate color pallet. I have mine on the bathroom vanity and another on the nightstand. These are so darling and will make great little ring or trinket holders when the candle is finished.
When I was in Paris I fell in love with LADUREE, not just because their Macarons are out of this world, but the shops are simply stunning. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the inspiration for this collection. This gift set would look right at home sitting on their fancy French shelves! And just a side note, as I so often hear people say “Macaroon” when what they really mean is Macaron. Macaroon is not an alternate spelling or pronunciation for Macaron, it is a completely different type of confection. Macaroons are a moist dense coconut type of cookie and Macarons are the delicate meringue-based cookie. I know, I segued off of candles onto dessert, but the fragrances are so delicious and mouthwatering that I couldn’t help going there!
The fragrances in this set are Lemon Coco, French Toast, Rose Champs, Violet & Honey and Birthday Cake. My favorite is Violet & Honey, but that is probably because Violet always makes me think of my grandmother, (there goes that wonderful thing about fragrance = memories.) This particular Violet has a sugary quality to go along with that subtle powdery note that is always present with Violet, add in a little honey and it is pure perfection. I must order this one in the 8.5oz Cloche Cover Candle (which all five fragrances are available in). The Lemon Coco which is described as “Tart Lemon Rind, White Sugar Lemonade, marshmallow Vanille” is so yummy and to me smells a bit like lemon pound cake. French Toast is described as “Brioche Sweet Bread, Maple Syrup, Vanilla Almond whipped Créme” and it is delectable. The maple syrup stands out most to me, but not in an overpowering way, it’s perfectly balanced with the other flavors, I mean scents! Rose Champs, you are speaking to my heart! Brut Rosé Champagne and Sugared Rose Petals? Um… Yes Please!!! And last but not least Birthday Cake which is described as “Vanilla Bean icing, Fluffy Créme Cake and Rainbow Ball Sprinkles” I could smell the vanilla icing as soon as I opened the lid, and then each layer of the fragrance comes through to literally smell just like a birthday cake.
