Voluspa just introduced Gilt Pomander & Hinoki for the holidays- their first seasonal candle in the Japonica range- and it’s stunning in every way. This is a gorgeous gift to give and to receive- the presentation is luxe and feminine, and the fragrance is intriguing and nuanced.

The box shines with embossed gold flowers, and the glass vessel sparkles and shimmers like metallic lace. This size releases the perfect throw for small and medium spaces, and now I want to collect every Voluspa candle in the scalloped jar.

The warm, spiced berries and woody Hinoki (a slow-growing cypress tree native to Japan) are perfectly balanced- evocative and a touch mysterious. You’ll keep sniffing this one, trying to figure it out. It feels like a sprig of mistletoe at a holiday party- festive, hopeful, and romantic.

There’s a touch of sweetness to the scent but it’s not overpowering at all. Sugary cassis berries are mellowed out by hints of cardamom, clove, cinnamon, and cypress. It’s unlike any candle I’ve burned before.

Voluspa was founded in 1999 by a husband and wife team and has built quite the cult following. Their proprietary coconut wax blend burns down so smoothly and is unique to the brand. The limited edition candles are always so interesting- definitely try this one before they sell out.
