Autumn is almost here, with an official start on September 23, 2014. Fall is my favorite season to get comfy with soft sweaters, watch nature’s brilliant displays of color, and enjoy the best of seasonal fall scents. Candles are enjoyable all year but there is something so warm and cozy about the glow of candlelight when days are vibrant and crisp, and nights begin to feel just a little bit chilly. There are some fantastic new fragrances available now from Votivo, Trapp, Nest Fragrances, and Lampe Berger, to treat your senses to seductive nights, holiday preparation, flirtatious fall nights, and the essence of autumn.
First up, is the new Votivo Pomme Dusk scent. This delicious new fragrance features “luscious raspberries, dark pools of rich pomegranate, and warm whispers of pink pepper, amber and cedar wood.” Available in a candle or a diffuser, this scent is a sweet and spicy treat on crisp evenings in October. The pepper and cedar wood add a rustic depth to the sophisticated sweetness of raspberries and pomegranate.
The next scent is not technically new, but it may be new to you. Seven years after being retired, the Trapp Frankincense and Rain Candle has returned. Previously known as Rejuvenating Rain, this scent will carry over well into fall as you begin to think of the upcoming holidays. With a fresh, clean pine scent, this candle makes a wonderful gift. Later in the season, Frankincense and Rain is a great scent to burn to get into a festive spirit while wrapping holiday gifts.
It’s always exciting when a new scent hatches from Nest Fragrances. The Japanese Black Currant Collection is an incredible addition to the Nest line. This scent is flirtatious and sophisticated, just as you would expect from Nest. This candle would work well as a signature scent for an October wedding, pairing beautifully with plum bridesmaids dresses and purpleberry calla lilies. The votive candle in this scent would make a wonderful wedding favor to help guests remember the intoxicating fragrance of Japanese Black Currant that filled the air during the ceremony.
Lampe Berger Harvest Season is autumn perfection. “A true homage to nature, a deep, warm fragrance of cut hay and mixed flowers,” this fragrance oil captures the essence of autumn. The first time I smelled this scent, childhood memories came flooding back. I remembered a hayride in the Catskills with my grandmother, taking in the explosion of color and the smell of crisp, falling leaves from the mountains surrounding us. This scent is certainly seasonal. I will enjoy it most from early October through mid-November, making this remembrance of autumn childhood a treasured annual tradition.
Returning scents from previous seasonal collections include the ever-popular pumpkin, bright citrus and green blends, and comforting hearth fragrances.
Linnea’s Lights Pumpkin is a pumpkin-lover’s dream. There is a hint of spice, but the essence of this fragrance is pure pumpkin. The perfect blend of natural pumpkin scent with just a hint of spice for a warm, cozy fragrance. Candles Off Main customer Chad says, “this is the perfect fragrance for fall. It sends out vibes of warmth and coziness… the perfect balance between spice and pumpkin.”
Back from the Thymes Wildwood collection is the fall favorite, Brandied Pumpkin and Chestnut Candle. Indulgent brandied pumpkin. Cozy Madagascar vanilla. Woody cinnamon bark. Sweet nutmeg. Spicy clove. Timeless amber. Earthy sandalwood. Rich patchouli. Susan Adams from Candles Off Main says, “This fragrance smells a lot like pumpkin that has been baked in the oven for a while and honey was drizzled over the top for the last few minutes of baking… It isn’t overly pumpkin so can be enjoyed from early September through April.”
Citrus & Greens
Trapp Orange & Clove Candle combines bright citrus orange with freshly ground clover, injecting your home with an inviting zesty appeal. If you are a fan of the Trapp Orange Vanilla candle, this Orange Clove candle will be a favorite through fall, the holiday season, and the rest of winter. The energizing orange and herbacious clover create a pleasant atmosphere for friends and family to relax in a living room after feasting on Thanksgiving dinner.
Thymes Bitter Orange and Cedar is another returning favorite from the Wildwood collection. Thymes lists the notes as follows: Transcendent patchouli leaves. Warm sandalwood. Smoldering red cedar. Captivating Ceylon cinnamon. Enigmatic nutmeg. Exotic clove. Luxurious Bourbon vanilla. Sparkling Valencia orange. Exciting and toasty, this scent would be wonderful on a blustery evening, wrapped in soft blankets, sipping on a hot chocolate and watching your favorite guilty pleasure flicks.
Linnea’s Lights Hearth is a smoky and captivating cedar wood scent, kindled with sweet amber and leather accords to welcome you. Perfect on a mantle over a fireplace or in lieu of a fireplace, this candle is the epitome of warmth.
Finally, the Trapp Hearth Candle is transcendent comfort in a candle jar. With notes of autumn leaves, wild black currant, crushed nutmeg and sweet apricot, this candle will be remembered as the scent of the season for years to come.
As the weather cools and the daylight hours dwindle, these fall scents are sure to bring a comforting glow to your home. Which fall scents do you enjoy the most?
